Cuban company Acosta Danza premieres today a choreography by Spanish artist Goyo Montero, who decided to question the fear of difference.

The company, directed by first dancer Carlos Acosta, will perform on August 2, 3 and 4 at Teatro Nacional de Cuba’s Avellaneda hall, where the choreography ‘Llamada’ (Call) will be performed for the first time.

Montero said that his new work deals with the search for sexual plenitude and the concept of gender, in the midst of a culture that rejects everything different.

Montero won in Cuba the first prize of the Ibero-American Competition of Choreography in 2006 and the Villanueva Prize in 2007, granted by the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba.

Spanish Goyo Montero’s piece ‘Imponderable,’ based on a lyrics by Cuban troubadour Silvio Rodriguez, and the choreography ‘Twelve,’ which mixes sports, dance and mathematics, complete the 7th Season of Acosta Danza.
