Popular Puerto Rican singer Olga Tañón, who this month premiered a video filmed in Cuba, said she will return to the island in December to give two free concerts, the Prensa Latina news agency informed on Wednesday.

The interpreter plans two major presentations on December 5 and 12: one in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba and another one in Havana, to thank the Cuban people for their love and solidarity, the Cubasi Web site reported on August 21.

Tañón, 48, who lives in Ocala, Florida, U.S.A., was in Cuba in July to record a promotional video for her latest single, Vivo la vida, filmed in streets of Havana.

The famous artist, winner of three Latin Grammy and two Grammy awards, was in Cuba for the first time in 2009 to sing in the controversial Peace without Borders concert organized by Colombian Juanes seeking to build bridges between Cuba and the United States.

Tañón was then the first foreign artist to arrive in Havana for that recital, which sparked off a strong reaction in Miami, where lots of disks by Juanes were destroyed, claiming that his initiative was a gesture of support for the Cuban communist government.

But now she returns to Cuba after the reestablishment of diplomatic relations with the United States on July 20, and the reopening of their respective embassies.
