The Cuban medical brigade that worked in Chile following the heavy rains that hit the northern area of Atacama in April returned home on the night of June 10.
At Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport, Deputy Health Minister Marcia Cobas welcomed the Brigade and acknowledged the work carried out by this group of 15 health professionals, members of the Henry Reeve Contingent, ACN reported on Thursday.
Cobas, accompanied by Santiago Badia, Secretary General of the Health Workers Union, also praised the work being done by physicians and paramedics who currently give solidarity assistance in Nepal, after the earthquake that hit that region.
The head of the group that returned from Chile, Carlos Ricardo Perez, gave Cobas a certificate the medical team received from the Municipality of Rancagua for their tireless and humanitarian work in Chile in 2010 and 2015.
Various members of this group have offered their services in other parts of the world and some have worked in areas hit by natural disasters, while others carry out this task for the first time.
Cuban medical brigades have helped the Chilean people in three different moments: in 1960 and 2010 (after earthquakes), and in 2015 after the heavy rains that hit the Atacama.
