Cuba’s Center of Molecular Immunology and the New York Roswell Park Cancer Institute signed on April 20 an agreement to export to the United States a therapeutic vaccine developed on the island against lung cancer, for which clinical trials will soon begin.

“The agreement will allow us to immerse ourselves in the clinical trials of the vaccine when we get to New York,” announced at a press conference at the Havana airport the Institute’s director, Candace Johnson.

Johnson is part of a trade delegation of the State of New York, led by its governor, Andrew Cuomo, who paid a little over 24 hour-visit to the island to explore business options, in addition to promoting exchanges in education and research.

“We are excited for being able to bring the vaccine to the U.S. and treat patients. This would not have been possible without this business mission, which facilitated the signing of the agreement face to face,” underlined the director of the center of world reference in cancer research, before leaving for New York.

We’re talking about the CimaVax-EGF therapeutic vaccine against lung cancer, created by Cuba in 2011 after 15 years of research, with patent rights worldwide.
