HAVANA, Cuba, March 10 (acn) The government of Qatar acknowledged the prestige of the Cuban hospital of Dukhan and showed interest in expanding Cuba’s medical cooperation, in addition to exploring investment opportunities on the island, said on Monday a diplomatic source.
According to a note by the Cuban delegation to Doha, Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani, reviewed the state of bilateral relations with Cuba’s ambassador to Qatar, Ernesto Plasencia, during a meeting described as fraternal, the Granma newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Al-Thani, also Interior Minister, told Plasencia about the acceptance and prestige achieved by the medical center of the town of Dukhan, directed and operated by Cuban health professionals and technicians, and reiterated the interest of Doha in expanding medical cooperation with Havana.
The Qatari premier also made clear his country’s willingness to explore investment opportunities offered by Cuba in order to boost commercial bonds, now favored by a much more attractive legislation for foreign investors.
The Cuban diplomat expressed Cuba’s willingness to strengthen bilateral bonds and praised the support of the Qatari government of the resolution presented by Cuba every year at the U.N. General Assembly to demand the lifting of the economic blockade imposed on the island by the United States for more than half a century now.
