Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez met on Wednesday with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, who is visiting Havana until tomorrow, as part of a Latin American tour.

Today, the two top officials are expected to make statements to reporters.

According to the agenda, Lavrov will pay tribute to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti and will visit the Capitol, the venue of the People’s Power National Assembly.

Lavrov’s tour will also include visits to Brazil and Suriname.

Cuba and Russia agree on several issues on the world agenda, the defense of peace and the role of international institutions.

Cuba established diplomatic relations with the then Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) in 1942. Bilateral ties were severed in 1952 until the revolutionary government reestablished them on May 8, 1960.
