The five Cuban antiterrorist fighters participated on July 2 in an international solidarity symposium of the tripartite alliance in South Africa.
Born in 2014 at the Colloquium for the freedom of The Five and against Terrorism, the initiative was aimed at demanding the release of Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino and Antonio Guerrero, the three Cuban antiterrorists that were still in U.S. prisons at the time.
They reiterated the audience, in which Anglican priest Michael Lapsley was present, that it was a victory of international solidarity and of the resistance of the Cuban people, ACN reported.
Known internationally as The Five- Hernández, Labañino and Guerrero along with Fernando González and René González, arrived in South Africa on June 21 at the invitation of the African National Congress (ANC) to celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the proclamation of the Charter of Freedom.
Ramón’s wife, Elizabeth Palmeiro, explained participants what the years of remoteness represented for the families of The Five, as well as their participation in the struggle for the return home of their loved ones.
