The elderly people in the Havana municipality of Guanabacoa enjoy the privilege of having a university recognized for its comprehensive steady work, during its twelve years of existence.

Today the enrollment reaches some one-hundred students, among the five classrooms of the basic course, and the post basic, entitled: The Grand motherhood.

The success of the work is due, above all, by the attractiveness of the subject matters, because the academic staff is very stable. They keep links with the graduates through the Project “Knowing one another better”. The students have incorporated to the Clubs of study of Marti’s work, which provide them with systematic activities. The group, based in Elio Llerena School, stands out for the award Gloria Guerra Mantocheco- given to them for their work in 2014- which is granted by the Cuban Association of Educators.

The University of the Elderly in Havana is about to reach 15 years of foundation; so, to greet the anniversary of the grandpas incorporated, a program is developed, which includes tours to historic sites of high value, talks, cultural  galas, acknowledgement to the founders and meetings with the graduated students of all years.
