We have lived intense days of work, discipline, solidarity and cooperation, said Miguel Diaz-Canel, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, in his closing remarks at the Round Table, which analysed the recovery of Havana after the tornado.
The President pointed out that no one’s effort should be ignored, and that during the days following January27, there has been a periodic appeal to the sensitivity of the officials to avoid annoyances on the part of the population.
There has also been a permanent call for patience and understanding on the population, since the damage was great and cannot be recovered in a day, he said.
We are going to work intensely for months with the certainty that, although the tornado affected us, the celebrations for Havana’s 500th anniversary are going, and everything that is done as part of the recovery will also be for the celebration, he said.
Diaz-Canel emphasized that Army General Raul Castro and Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, First and Second Secretaries of the Communist Party of Cuba, respectively, have been pending and attentive to what has been happening.
The Cuban President also stated that a group of experiences have been drawn that could be incorporated into disaster prevention plans.
He emphasized the solidarity of the brother countries, international organizations, institutions and foreign companies that are in Cuba.
He also assured that the response given by the young people to the recovery actions shows that it was not possible to renounce to carry out the March of the Torches, because that act ignited much more the spirits to work.
The president concluded by evoking a song by Silvio Rodriguez that says that the darkest night always dawns the day, because we are Cuba, we are continuity and we go for more.
