Boxers Guarantee First Olympic Medals for Cuba in Rio

Boxers Joahnys Argilagos, of the 49 kilogram division, and Erislandy Savon (91) guaranteed today, with their victories in the quarterfinals, the first medals for Cuba in the 31st edition of the Olympic Games under way in Rio de Janeiro.

Current world champion Argilagos won in the morning against Kenyan Peter Warui by unanimous decision of the judges (3-0), in a fight for the bronze medal, while in the afternoon Savon defeated Argentinean Alberto Yamil Peralta in the same way, ACN reported on August 10.

Likewise, at the Riocentro-Hall 6, pugilist Julio Cesar La Cruz (81), triple champion of the world, moved on to the quarterfinals by beating Nadir Mehmet Unal 3-0.
