Cuba gets ticket to CONCACAF Nations League

Despite losing away 1-2 to Haiti, the Cuban national soccer team managed to get one of the six tickets to the Group A of the 2019-20 CONCACAF Nations League.

At Sylvio Cator stadium in Port-au-Prince, the hosts won with goals by Duckens Nazon in the 26th minute and Kevin Lafrance (87´), while the Cuban goal was scored by Luis Paradela (61´).

Haiti finished unbeaten with 12 points, like Canada and Martinique, in this preliminary round between 34 teams, while Curacao, Bermuda and Cuba earned the other three berths to the elite CONCACAF stage.

Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras, the United States and Trinidad and Tobago were already qualified to that phase as participants in the last hexagonal to the World Cup places of the region.

In addition to those 12 squads, Guyana, Jamaica, El Salvador and Nicaragua, who ranked in the top 10 of this stage, also qualified to Gold Cup this year in the United States.

Cuba finished sixth with nine points, like Curaçao, Bermuda, Guyana, Jamaica, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Monserrat, but the first three were included in the top sextet by having better goal difference (+20, +13 and +13), respectively.

The Cuban side had previously beaten Turks and Caicos (11-0), Granada (2-0) and the Dominican Republic (1-0).
