Cuba, United States and Canada have already guaranteed 66 awards at the Ernest Hemingway International Marlin Fishing Tournament, under way in Havana with the attendance of over 90 vessels from nine countries.
The U.S. Barefoot and Blue Heron teams won two trophies, after reporting the first catch of a Marlin and of the biggest Dorado, respectively, by way of the method of marking and releasing, announced today the Marlin S.A. Enterprise Group of Boating and Marinas, ACN reported on June 16.
The newsletter, where the results of two days of fishing are collected, notes that the title for the largest tuna was won by the crew of the Doris, which represents the fishing community of the municipality of Cojimar, in Habana del Este.
Meanwhile, the boat Sofia D., of Canada, received the prize to the first catch by a woman.
Also taking part in the current edition of the competition, the largest in history, are teams from Lithuania, Argentina, Russia, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Spain, Italy and France.
Participants will sail until June 18 along the coastal area extending from the bay of Mariel to Guanabo, seeking to get the cup of the contest, and also in tribute to the famous U.S. writer, driving force behind the competition in the 1950s.
