Cuban Leinier DomÃnguez said good-bye to Baku on Tuesday with a victory and a silver medal among the first boards of the World Chess Olympiad, which for 11 days had the capital of Azerbaijan as its venue.
DomÃnguez (2,720 ELO points), beat Constantin Lupulescu in a match Cuba tied with Rumania (2-2) and reached 7,5 points, with a performance rating of 2,839, ACN reported on September 13.
Georgian Baduur Jobava (2,926/8 points of 10) won the gold medal, while U.S. player Fabiano Caruana (2,838/seven of 10) walked away with bronze.
Leinier accumulated five victories and the same amount of draws, which earned him the 15, 6 points that will be added to his ELO on October 1st and that will make him occupy a better position in world ranking.
