The Cuban beach volleyball duos of Sergio González-Nivaldo Díaz and Karell Peña-Daisel Quesada will attend the finals of the North Central American and Caribbean Circuit (NORCECA) to take place in Trinidad and Tobago on November 16-21.
The head coach of Cuba’s national men’s team, Leonides Regüeiferos, considers this competition as an important step in the training of the young athletes for their possible inclusion next year in the World Circuit, which will have 14 stops between February and September, Cubasi reported on November 9.
According to the manager, his aspiration is that the duo composed of Sergio González and Nivaldo Díaz is present in 10 of these series.
The first of them has been scheduled for February in Fort Lauderdale, the United States, where Cubans will play in a tournament that qualifies eight duos to then compete for positions in the main competition, will be attended by the 22 leaders of world ranking, in addition to another two that will participate by way of wild cards.
All in all, there will be 32 duos trying to get points for the world list, specified Regüeiferos.
The World Championship will take place from July 28 to August 6, 2017, in Vienna, Austria. For this competition, there is the option that each region’s confederation presents its most outstanding two duos.
Regueiferos added that the objective is for one of the two duos to represent Cuba in NORCECA and the other one to compete in the World Circuit.
