The Cuban Angel Fournier finished sixth in the (M1x) men’s single sculls in the World Rowing Championships, based in Aiguebelette, France, contest that granted Olympic tickets to the six A finalists for each of the events convened.

According to the website of the tournament, Fournier, silver and bronze medalist in the two previous World Cup editions, stopped the clocks at 7: 04.82 minutes, far from the leaders.

The winners were the Czech Andrej Synek (6: 54,760), New Zealander Mahe Drysdale (6: 55.100) and Lithuanian Mindaugas Griskonics (6: 57.640), in that order.

The other Cuban boat in competition was the (M2x) men’s double sculls, made up by Eduardo Rubio and Adrian Oquendo, who crossed the finish line of the B final in third place.

Rubio and Oquendo (6: 10.760) were surpassed by the pairs of Azerbaijan (6: 10.260) and UK (6: 10.450).

The latter, with five gold, nine silver and one bronze medals, topped the standings, escorted by New Zealand (5-3-1) and Germany (3-4-2).

This contest was attended by 498 athletes from 75 countries.
