Cuban Leinier DomÃnguez completed on Wednesday 2.5 of four points in the Dortmund chess tournament, after drawing with U.S. player Fabiano Caruana.
The website of the German organizers made it possible to know that Leinier (2713 ELO points) played with the black pieces for 37 moves of a Petrov defense, in which he achieved rapid balance, ACN reported on July 13.
This was the third draw of the Caribbean player, who triumphed the previous day and is now second after French Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (2798), the only one with three units as winner against local Rainer Buhmann (2653).
He succeeded in only 35 moves of a Spanish opening, Closed variant, and stood alone at the top.
The other two matches of the day ended with parities, one of them between Ukrainian Ruslan Ponomariov (2706) and Russian Vladimir Kramnik (2812) in 27 moves of a declined Queen’s Gambit.
German Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu (2674) and Russian Evgeny Najer (2687) did the same in 44 of a Pawn Queen.
Positions 3 to 6, with two points, belong to Ponomariov, Kramnik, Caruana and Nisipeanu, while Najer follows them with 1.5 and Buchmann is last with one.
Thursday will be a day of rest for all and on Friday Vachier will face Najer, Leinier will play vs. Nisipeanu, Kramnik against Caruana and Buchmann vs. Ponomariov.
