Cuba’s men’s team advanced to the semifinals of the Pan- American U-23 Men’s Volleyball Cup scheduled for Friday, after defeating the Dominican Republic in three sets at the close of the qualifying round in Guanajuato, Mexico.
The unbeaten Cuban team beat the Dominicans on Wednesday in Group B (25-15, 25-17 and 25-19), after 57 minutes, according to the Website of the competition, ACN reported on September 8.
Top scorer was Miguel López, who accumulated 12 points, supported by Javier Concepción and Osniel Rendón, both with 11, while Luis Rodriguez (10) excelled for the Dominicans.
On the previous day, Cuba won against Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-15) which ended last in the group, with no victories and two defeats, also after the Dominican Republic (1-1).
Colombia (2-0) led Group A, before Mexico (1-1) and Guatemala (0-2), while Argentina (2-0) led C, followed by Chile (1-1) and St. Lucia (0-2).
The other semifinalists are Argentineans, who are waiting, like Cubans, for the winners of the quarterfinals on Thursday of the Colombia-Dominican Republic and Chile-Mexico games.
