With their eyes set on the Wrestling Grand Prix of Azerbaijan, to be held on November 22-25, Cuban gladiators intensify in Havana their training for that competition.

Cuba will compete in that tournament with 15 athletes, most of them the same that attended the Pan-American Championship of Frisco, Texas, in March, a group that will be headed by Yasmany Lugo, of the 98 kilogram division, Olympic runner-up in Rio de Janeiro 2016, Cubasi reported on October 18.

Also competing in the Greco-Roman modality along with Lugo will be Javier Duménigo (59), Miguel Martínez (66), Daniel Gregorich (85) and Oscar Pino (130).

Standing out in free style is the presence of Reineris Salas, double silver medalist in world competitions and winner of the title in the Pan-American Games of Toronto 2015.

Salas, who like the rest of the members of his group train at the capital’s Cerro Pelado School for the Training of High Performance Athletes, told ACN that the Grand Prix will be a demanding tournament due to the presence of first level rivals, among them Olympic and world medalists and regional champions. There – he said – I will compete in the 97 kilogram division.
