Sprinter Yunidis Castillo won a silver medal in long jump in the 15th Paralympic Games, with 5.59 meters, at the Joao Havelange Stadium of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the Web site of the Games, the Cuban athlete (F47 category) lost the gold medal by three centimeters to New Zealander Anna Grimaldi, ACN reported on September 8.

The bronze medal went to Australian Carlie Beattie (5, 57), favorite of many specialists.

This is just the beginning of the outstanding athlete, since she will also compete in the 100, 200 and 400 meters dash, distances in which she expects to repeat her victories of London 2012, on September 11, 13 and 16, in that order.

Also on Thursday, another Cuban sprinter, Omara Durand, set a Paralympic record in the qualifying round of the 100 meters T12 (deep visually impaired), with 11.58 seconds.

Durand will compete again in Friday in the semifinals, in a day in which Cuba could also obtain a medal by way of Gerdan Fonseca (javelin).
