Judoka Dalidaivis Rodriguez will carry the Cuban flag in the opening ceremony of the 15th Paralympic Games on September 7 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Osvaldo Vento, vice-president of the National Sports Institute and head of the delegation, announced that runner Omara Durand, initially chosen to bear the flag, will participate in the qualifying race scheduled for the following morning, for which this decision was made, ACN reported on September 5.

Based on delays in getting to the Villa after the opening ceremony of the Games, it was agreed to protect the sprinter, who begins a tight competitive program that Thursday morning with preliminaries of the 100m T12 (deep visually impaired).

Durand will also participate in the 200 and 400 meter events, in search of reissuing the 2015 Doha world titles.

Rodriguez, Paralympic champion in London 2012 in the 63 kg division, said she was proud to be selected to bear the Cuban flag in the ceremony.
