Doctor Rui Maria de Araujo, Prime Minister of East Timor, thanked Cuba in this capital for its support in the training of athletes and sports professionals.

During a visit to the Manuel “Piti” Fajardo University of Sciences, Physical Culture and Sport (UCCFD), the Timorese president acknowledged that in his country people are aware of Cubans’ achievements in sports activities, and stressed the importance of strengthening ties in this area, ACN reported on October 7.

For me, he said, it is an honor to be here and learn a little more about how the process of study and training of students on the island is carried out, those who will later contribute their knowledge as professionals.

He highlighted that several Cuban coaches are working in East Timor, where they have helped a lot in the recruitment of athletes, especially in boxing.

Also present at the meeting on Wednesday was Antonio Becali, president of the National Sports Institute (INDER), who in his welcoming remarks thanked the Prime Minister for his visit and his interest in sports education in Cuba.

Doctor Rui Maria de Araujo will end on Thursday his visit to the Caribbean island, where he met with Army General Raul Castro, President of the councils of State and Ministers, and spoke about the common will of strengthening ties of cooperation, mainly in the area of health.
