Cuban Swimmer Lorenzo Pérez Qualifies for Finals at Paralympics

Cuban swimmer Lorenzo Pérez ratified his hope of obtaining his first gold medal in Paralympic Games, after wining in the 100 meter freestyle qualifying event (S6) at the Aquatic Stadium of the Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In the third qualifying heat, Pérez covered the distance in 1:07.69 minutes, the best time of the 18 participants competing to take part in the finals, scheduled for Saturday evening, ACN reported on September 17.

Also qualifying were Chinese Hongguang Jia (1:08.38), Dutch Thijs Van Hofwegeen (1:08.48) and Colombian Nelson Crispín (1:08.54).

Today will be the great day, for which we have trained hard with a lot of effort and sacrifice, said the winner of a bronze medal in the 400 meters in Rio and runner-up in the 50 meter event in London 2012.
