The performance of Cuban Omara Durand was chosen by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to place her seventh among the best 50 sporting moments of the year.
The IPC Web site announced the unprecedented designation for a Cuban athlete among the best of an annual list, which includes achievements in 31 disciplines, as well as sports events and other aspects dedicated to people with disabilities, ACN reported on December 30.
When there are still five names to be announced before December, 31 year-old Durand, winner of three gold medals at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar, had a great season, which included three titles at the Pan-American Games of Toronto, Canada.
At the meeting in Doha, she also set three world records in the T12 category –deep visually impaired- in the 100, 200 and 400 meters dash, in 11.48, 23.03 and 53.05 seconds respectively.
In the Canadian competition, she achieved records in the 100 and 200 meters, in 11.65 and 23.67 seconds, in that order.
All these results turned her into the most outstanding Cuban disabled athletes in 2015.
